Winters tend to make skin dry and dull which result in loss of skin moisture and premature aging of skin. Its easy to take care of your skin with few easy to follow steps:
1. Protect face: Face is the first part that is easily exposed to dry air. The first thing to check is the products you are using for face care. Check whether you have picked the right face wash depending on skin texture. Your face wash may be making your skin dry. Exfoliation is necessary for keeping skin soft and smooth which cannot occur without moisturizing formulas. Winters are the right time to use heavy night creams which cannot be used easily during summers. Night creams lock the skin moisture and prevent skin aging. Its an easy way to keep face glowing and youthful. Never use a body lotion on face. Use the right products that prevent fine lines and wrinkles from developing on skin.
2. Moisturize skin: Moisturizing the skin helps in retaining skin moisture for soft and glowing skin. Moisture forms a barrier against skin infections and prevent water in skin layers from evaporating. Use moisturizing lotions to take care of dryness. Take one tea spoon of milk cream and add a pinch of turmeric to it. Mix the two and apply on lips for smooth and soft lips. Application of almond oil on dry lips before sleeping also makes lips soft and smooth.
4. Cracked feet: Working in cold environment can lead to dried and cracked feet which later start aching. Clean your feet after work or before sleeping by dipping in warm salty water. Add 1 tea spoon of salt per 200 ml of water. Keep your feet inside water for 10-15 minutes and clean with a towel. Take 25 gm of bees wax and 50 gm sesame oil. Heat the oil and mix the two. Collect the mixture in a bottle. Take out the sufficient quantity of mixture and apply on cracks. This will fill and heel feet crack within a week or two.
5. Hydrate your skin: Hydrating the skin supplies water content to keep layers of epidermis supple and smooth. Our skin has a tendency to absorb moisture from environment that keeps the cells healthy. Once the moisture levels reduce in the upper layers of the skin, cells start drying which makes skin dull and rough. Its forms a barrier for absorption of water from environment and skin gets dull in appearance. This lesser absorption of moisture and accumulation of dead cells can lead to premature aging. To prevents it, use natural hydrating oils like jojoba oil, coconut oil, etc that locks skin moisture and prevent dehydration. Drink warm water during winters. Eat foods rich in essential fatty acids like walnuts, flax seeds, oranges, strawberries etc which keep skin hydrated from inside. Use coconut oil and glycerin which help in absorbing moisture to deeper layers of skin.
6. Use products containing sunscreens: Some skin care experts and dermatologists say that its easy to get sunburned in winters than summers. Sun rays reflected from snow and ice reflect around 80% of the UV rays that can easily penetrate skin. Also, skin gets easily dry due to wind blows and dry skin can be easily damaged by the sun rays.
7. Soothe dry scalp: In dry winters, scalp tends to develop dandruff and the best way to get rid of it is using an anti-dandruff shampoo. An easy homemade treatment for taking care of scalp and hair problems is washing hair with skimmed buttermilk. If the scalp gets more thicker, scaly and stubborn, use a shampoo containing salicylic acid. If the problem persists, consult a dermatologist for better scalp treatment.
8. Protect hands and nails: Protect your hands and nails by wearing vinyl gloves while dealing with work involving water and detergents. This will protect brittle nails from breaking also. Use warm water for washing dishes, clothes etc with hands. Pamper nails with oil, glycerin or moisturizer. Get a manicure done once a month or two to remove dry cuticles.
9. Use a humidifier: Use a humidifier which is almost an inexpensive product to maintain the desired humidity levels inside room or home to prevent the dry atmospheric conditions. This product can be missing in your home and using it can lead to a comfortable environment. Use more than 1 humidifier if you have a large home. It alleviates itchy skin problems, dry nasal passages like sinus, dry eyes, cracked lips etc. Like temperature, humidity level should be kept under comfortable levels.
10. Breathe deeply: Breathing exercises are important in winters as they keep us protected from the cold and harsh weather diseases. Generally, going outside for a jogging or walk may not be feasible due to extreme cold conditions. A better option is practicing breathing exercises inside home. The heat produced during deep breathing cures skin diseases and keeps skin soft and smooth. Its an easy and cheapest method for taking care of body disorders that can occur during winters.
