Oils for skin and hair care

Today, oils form an important ingredients in cosmetics. These are widely used  due to the beauty enhancing vitamins and minerals that are present in natural form. If one reads the list of ingredients of  the cosmetics available in home, nearby shop or the newly launched beauty or skincare products, you will find that majority of these products contain oils or its derivative. These oils are used to enhance the beauty benefits of such beauty products.  Let's have a look at few important oils used in hair and skin care cosmetics:

1. Marula oil: Marula oil is an important oil used to enhance results of high end cosmetics. It contains large proportion of mono-saturated fatty acids and natural antioxidants. Its important ingredients include Oleic acid,  Linoleic acid, palmitic acid, vitamins Cand E etc. It is widely used in facial creams, body lotions and hair serums due to its moisturising and nourishing properties. It contains high level of antioxidants which help in maintaining youthfulness of dull skin. Apply this oil to hair for long, beautiful and shiny hair. Massage on dry face before sleeping for beautiful, soft and glowing skin. One can easily use it for dry, dull and aging skin.

2. Argan oil:  Argan oil is another oil that forms an important ingredient in variety of cosmetics like body lotions, anti aging creams, serums, shampoos, conditioners, hydrating toners, lip guards and scrubs, etc. Its important constituents include oleic, Linoleic, palmitic, stearic acids, vitamin E, carotenes etc. Researchers have found that the consumption of Argon oil can help in prevention of serious disease like cancers, cardiovascular diseases and obesity. In cosmetics, Argon oil is used for treating juvenile acne; for moisturizing both skin and hair, against anti aging; making hair shiny, silky and sleek; heeling cracked , irritated, damaged and even burnt parts of skin.

3. Avocado oil: The oil extracted from the flesh of Avocados is used in numerous cosmetic activities. Its aromatic fragrance and the presence of various nutrients like mono-saturated fats, vitamin A, B, C, D, E and K makes it suitable for skin and hair care products. Its known for very high skin penetration and deep absorption. Its a super facial and body moisturizer. It refines skin texture for smooth and soft skin, hydrates it deeply, reduces fine lines and wrinkles on skin, repairs damaged skin cells, eradicates dandruff, make hair shiny and moisturised etc. It offers low level of UV protection (an SPF of 6-9). Apply it from root to tip of damaged and rough hair to get healthy, beautiful , shining hair. It improves hair growth and hence used in hair fall treatments.

4. Olive oil: There's a growing importance of olive oil worldwide due to various health benefits, especially for heart and cholesterol patients. Olive oil is a rich source of vitamin E, antioxidants and essential mono and poysaturated fatty acids like Oleic and Linoleic acids. Those looking for Omega-3 fatty acids can rely on olive oil. Olive oil is very famous for its moisturising properties and so forms an important ingredient for number of moisturizing shampoos, conditioners, skin care peels, serums, lipsticks, eye liners, anti aging products etc. One can directly reap its benefits by directly applying on hair and skin . Dry skin people can easily apply on skin as it keeps skin moisturised for long hours and offers glow to skin. It repairs damaged hair and split ends of hair, makes hair shiny and improve hair growth.

5. Garlic oil: Garlic is an important spice used in cooking for various health benefits. Its an important source for increasing immunity to fight various diseases. Garlic oil is a good source of sulphur, copper, selenium, manganese, calcium, vitamins B1, B6 and C. Its mainly used in hair loss shampoos and oils, foot crack heeling creams,  treating acne and other skin infections etc. Garlic's most of the medicinal properties are due to a compound called allicin. The more the allicin, the more effective are its results. The sulphur and other minerals combined with vitamin B complex is used for maintaing the youthfulness and elasticity of skin. When combined with vitamin E, it works as a powerful anti aging agent. When  few drops of garlic oil are poured in 1 glass of milk and drunk, it removes deficiency of iron in anemic patients and retains the youthfulness of skin.

6. Jojoba oil: Jojoba oil is more stable than other oils like coconut, sunflower, almond oil etc as it does not oxidize easily. The various fatty acids present in jojoba oil are Eicosenoic acid, Docosdienoic acid, Godoelic acid etc. It supplies essential vitamins like vitamin E and B-complex, and various minerals like zinc, copper, selenium and chromium. Cetyl alcohol , used as an important cosmetics ingredient, is one of the derivatives of jojoba oil. Jojoba oil can be used as a facial moisturiser, healing foot cracks, hair conditioning, treating acne, moisturizing hair etc. The various cosmetics which use jojoba oil are anti aging serums, sun screens, make up removers,  body lotions, anti dandruff and damage repair shampoos, conditioners, lip care products, foot care products etc. Jojoba oil is non digestible and when consumed, it does not provide any calories but acts as a lubricant for digestive system.
